@ButlerMenSoccer Travels to Louisville Monday for Top 25 Match-up

The Bulldogs travel to Louisville for a Top 25 match-up with the Cardinals. The contest is set for 7:30 p.m. and will streamed live on ACC Network Extra, which is part of the WatchESPN app.

Butler is currently ranked No. 25 in the United Soccer Coaches national rankings, while Louisville is ranked No. 9. New rankings are expected later in the day Monday.

Both teams are 1-0 on the season after winning their respective openers at home on Friday night. Butler defeated defending Horizon League champion UIC, 1-0, while the Cardinals took down UC Irvine by a score of 2-1.

A season ago, Butler and Louisville played to a 0-0 draw in Kentucky. The match was the 2016 season opener. Keeper Eric Dick made 10 saves in the match as Louisville fired 23 shots and had 11 corner kicks.

Butler's win Friday night over UIC came in overtime as junior Jared Timmer headed in the game-winner in the 95th minute. The goal came off a free kick from sophomore Lewis Suddick as Butler's two preseason All-BIG EAST selections combined on the tally.

Suddick is also ranked among the Top 100 players entering the season by Top Drawer Soccer; Suddick comes in at No. 85 on the list after scoring 11 goals during his freshman campaign.

Ten of the 11 starters for Butler in the opener against UIC had started matches previously for the Bulldogs. Sophomore Brandon Guhl, a transfer from SMU, was the lone newcomer to get the starting nod. Freshman Joel Harvey played 15 minutes in a reserve role for the Bulldogs, the only true freshman to see action.

Friday's shutout included three saves by Dick. It marked the 20th solo shutout of Dick's Butler career. He also shared one shutout during his redshirt freshman season in 2014. Timmer's goal on Friday was the third of his Butler career. He led the team and the BIG EAST with nine assists in 2016.

Timmer and Dick join Eric Leonard as the team's three seniors for the 2017 campaign. Leonard led the Bulldogs with seven shots Friday night.

Following Monday night's match, the Bulldogs are next in action this weekend in Bloomington, Ind. The team will play neutral site contests against South Florida on Friday and San Francisco on Sunday. The four-team event is hosted by Indiana, but Butler and the Hoosiers will not play until their annual match-up Oct. 18 in Indianapolis. Butler's next home match is Sept. 8 against Western Michigan.
