About the Opponent: Eastern Michigan
The Eagles head to Indianapolis with a 1-2-1 overall record. They tied Illinois State 1-1 in the season opener and defeated UIC just two days later 2-1. The team is currently on a two match losing streak, falling to both Florida Atlantic (3-0) and most recently Florida Golf Coast (5-1). Sabrina McNeill is the top offensive weapon for EMU. The 5-4 sophomore has two goals and two assists, leading the Eagles in each category. This will be the seventh meeting between the two programs. Half of the first six resulted in a tie. Butler's last win over EMU came in 2015 (3-0). The Eagles defeated BU back in 2012 (1-0).
About the Opponent: Cleveland State
The Vikings are off to a 1-3 start to the 2017 season with setbacks to Xavier (3-2), Binghamton (2-1) and Ohio (1-0). They defeated Kent State 2-1 and will face Akron on Thursday before traveling to Butler on Sunday. Their top scoring threat is Jenna Prathapa, a freshman forward that already has scored three goals in her young career. The goalkeeper will be senior Jamie Daniels. Daniels has 22 saves on the season. This will be the 10th meeting between the two programs with BU leading the all-time series 5-3-1. The last match ended in a 1-1 tie during the 2015 campaign. Cleveland State's last win was recorded in 2011 (1-0). BU won the Horizon League matchup in 2010 (1-0).
Caitlyn DiSarcina Named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
The Butler rookie scored back-to-back game-winning goals in a 2-0 week for the Bulldogs. DiSarcina's first collegiate goal came in the 48th minute at Michigan State on Thursday as Butler scored a 1-0 victory over the Spartans. She followed that with the go-ahead score in the 73rd minute on Sunday in a 2-0 victory over Bowling Green.
Leonie Doege Makes BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
The rookie keeper played 135 minutes of scoreless action last week, highlighted by a six-save shutout win at Michigan State on Thursday night. She added one stop in 45 minutes against Bowling Green on Sunday.
Gutlove Scores A Goal
Freshman midfielder
Elena Gutlove scored the first goal of her Bulldog career in the home opener against Bowling Green. Gutlove pushed the scoreboard to 2-0 with her second half goal. She found the back of the net just three minutes after Butler's first goal of the match.
Defense Wins Championships
Butler has only allowed one goal over the first four matches of the season. The same can be said about the 2015 team that won the BIG EAST Championship Tournament and therefore broke into the NCAA Tournament. The only other Butler team to hold the opposition to just one goal over the first four games was the 2003 squad. They started the year 3-0-1 with wins over Ball State (1-0), Drexel (2-0) and Towson (3-1). The tie came at Louisville (0-0).
