VILLANOVA, PA. -- Butler volleyball lost a road contest at BIG EAST foe Villanova Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats took the match in three sets (25-13, 25-23, 25-19). The Bulldogs' overall record drops to 12-5 and 2-3 in the BIG EAST.
Villanova improves to 9-6 (2-2 in the BIG EAST).
The Bulldogs battled throughout the first set with four kills by
Anna Logan and two kills each by
Bri Lilly and
Whitney Beck. The Wildcats went on a 7-1 scoring streak to end the first set 25-13.
A hard-fought second set did not go Butler's way. Strong play by the Bulldogs at the end of the second set tied the game at 21-21 after a 5-0 run by the Bulldogs. Logan and Lilly each had a kill with the scoring streak capped off with a kill by
Natalie Ravenell. The Bulldogs tied the score again at 23-23 but Villanova took the final two points and the set.
Solid play by Logan kept the Bulldogs in the third set, but the Bulldogs could not hold off the Wildcats, losing 25-19. The Bulldogs ended the match with a .113 hitting percentage. The Wildcats posted a .284.
Logan and Lilly led the team at the net, with Logan tallying nine kills and Lilly with eight. Logan also led the team with two blocks.
Makayla Ferguson had a team-best 10 digs.
Allie Loitz led the Wildcats with a team-high 18 digs and a .455 attack percentage. Mallory Potts also tallied 10 kills. Defensively, Reagan Lough led the way with 14 digs.
Butler travels back to Indianapolis after three games in four days and will look to regroup on Friday, Oct. 6 with a home match-up against BIG EAST opponent St. John's. The match is set to begin at 6 p.m.
