#21 Seton Hall Posts Comeback Win Over @ButlerMBB, 90-87

No. 21 Seton Hall erased an 11-point second-half deficit and came away with a 90-87 win over Butler Saturday afternoon at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

With the result, the Pirates move to 14-2 overall and are alone atop the BIG EAST standings at 3-0. The Bulldogs are now 12-5 (2-2 BIG EAST).

"Seton Hall is a really good team; they are well-coached and they have seniors who made big plays down the stretch," said Butler coach LaVall Jordan. "In this league, every night is going to come down to one or two possessions. We didn't finish plays like we needed to tonight and we probably should have made some adjustments earlier. But I love our fight and we can't dwell on this one. No one is going to feel sorry for us and we can't feel sorry for ourselves."

Sixteen of Khadeen Carrington's 29 points came in the final 10 minutes of the game after Butler took its largest lead of the contest at 65-54 with 9:57 to play. A 16-3 Pirates run gave the visitors a 70-68 lead with 6:33 to play, Seton Hall's first advantage since an early 10-8 lead.

The teams would trade the lead back and forth before two Kelan Martin free throws tied the game at 82-82 with 1:54 to play. After empty possessions on both ends, Carrington scored in the paint with just over a minute to play to give Seton Hall an 84-82 lead. After forcing another Butler miss, Seton Hall was able to utilize an offensive rebound that forced Butler to foul with 13 seconds to play. Myles Powell hit two free throws for a four-point advantage that would prove to be too much for the Bulldogs to overcome.

Martin had 27 points for Butler. He made all seven of his free throw attempts as the Bulldogs went 25-of-28 as a team. Martin reached 20 points for the sixth consecutive game and was one of four Bulldogs in double figures, joining Kamar Baldwin (14), Henry Baddley (14), and Nate Fowler (11).

Baldwin added six rebounds and five assists. Butler out-rebounded Seton Hall, 32-30.

Seton Hall's three-headed monster of Carrington, Angel Delgado and Desi Rodriguez combined for 76 of the team's 90 points. Delgado had 28 points and 15 rebounds, hitting 10 of 12 free throws. Rodriguez had 19. Carrington's 29 points included a 7-of-11 performance from three-point range.

Butler returns to action Tuesday night, traveling to Omaha, Neb., for a match-up with Creighton. The 8:30 p.m. (Eastern, 7:30 p.m. Omaha) tip will air nationally on FS1.
