INDIANAPOLIS – The Bulldogs won the first set against Xavier on Saturday afternoon, but the following three belonged to the Musketeers giving Xavier their sixth win of the season (25-21, 20-25, 21-25, 18-25). With the loss, Butler moves to 6-15 on the year.
Highlighting the match for Butler was junior outside hitter
Brooke Gregory who notched a career-high 21 kills. She hit .294 on the day, collecting those 21 kills on 51 attempts. The only other Bulldog to hit double figures in the kill category was
Natalie Ravenell. She had 10 to go along with eight digs and seven blocks.
Bri Lilly was once again excellent at the net with a team-high 10 blocks. She added seven kills and three digs to her stat line. The defensive effort also received a lift from
Elizabeth LaBue who tallied a match-high 26 digs.
Emma Milstead recorded 12 digs and
Taylor Takeda impacted the match with 11.
Butler's setter was
Maddie Freiwald for a majority of the way. She came up with 37 assists, five digs, four blocks and one kill.
Megan Ramseyer came in to spell Freiwald in the final set to record three assists.
Xavier posted a higher attack percentage to take control of the action and they doubled Butler up in the service ace column. Ryan Shannon led Xavier with four service aces, collecting half of the team total. BU had four total aces and six service errors.
Butler will return to action on Thursday with a road tilt at Providence. They will end the weekend with a trip to Creighton to face the nationally-ranked Bluejays.
