The Butler men's soccer team fell to Seton Hall 2-1 Wednesday night, as the Pirates used two second half goals to push past the Bulldogs. Butler falls to 4-10-2, 2-5 in the BIG EAST. With the win, Seton Hall moves to 6-5-2, 2-4-1.
The Bulldogs came out aggressive in the first half, taking the lead in just the fourth minute.
Logan Lee scored his third goal of the season, his second in two games, off a cross from
Brandon Guhl. Seton Hall turned up the pressure to try to find the equalizer, outshooting Butler seven to four the remainder of the half. The Bulldog defense held strong and took the 1-0 lead into halftime.
The second half was a different story as the Pirates found the equalizer just 20 seconds in. CJ Tibbling sent the ball past starting Butler keeper
Gabriel Gjergji to tie the game up at one goal apiece.
The Pirates did not waste any time, scoring the game winning goal in the 50
th minute. McKenzie Carlton finished the ball into the right upper 90 of the goal off an assist from Spencer Burkhardt.
The Bulldogs had chances from
Marco Charalambous and
Brandon Guhl to find the equalizer, but they could not find the back of the net in the remaining minutes of the second half. The Pirates piled on 10 more shots in the final 45 minutes, compared to just seven by Butler. Corner kicks favored the Pirates as well, 5-2.
Gjerji (4-10-1) received the loss in goal for the Bulldogs, making four saves. Seton Hall keeper Andreas Nota (6-5-2) made two saves in his sixth win of the season.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Oct. 28, taking on Marquette in their last regular season home game. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. and the match will stream live on BEDN.
