MATCH NOTES
INDIANAPOLIS – The Bulldogs will close out the 2018 season this weekend with matches at Villanova and Georgetown. Friday night's contest at Villanova will stream on BEDN. The regular season finale will follow at Georgetown on Saturday, Nov. 17.

- BU ranks third in the NCAA in both blocks per set and total blocks
Scouting Villanova
Villanova, Georgetown and Xavier will fight for the final spot in the upcoming BIG EAST volleyball tournament. The Wildcats are 15-13 overall with an 8-8 mark in the conference. Last weekend they posted a 3-0 sweep at Providence, but lost 3-0 at #9 Creighton. Clare Delaplane and Amanda Pedersen-Henry are the top offensive threats on the roster. Delaplane is a true freshman that averages a team-best 2.87 kills per set. Pedersen-Henry is a two-way player that also ranks second on the team in blocks (79). Regan Lough is a terrific defensive player for the Wildcats. She averages 5.40 digs per set and is one of four players to have 20 or more service aces.
Scouting Georgetown
The Hoyas have the exact same record as Villanova both overall and in conference. Georgetown also split road matches last weekend taking a 3-0 loss to #9 Creighton and then edging Providence 3-2. The three names on the scouting report for Saturday afternoon include Alyssa Sinnette, Iva Vujosevic and Symone Speech. Sinnette recently surpassed 300 kills on the year and Vujosevic and Speech will do so this weekend. Vujosevic also has the best service on the team which has helped post a team-high 39 aces. Speech doubles up as the top blocker on the roster with 99 blocks in 96 sets. Kenzie Higareda leads the team with 477 digs and the setter is sophomore Margo Pivonka (956).
All-Time Series
Butler holds a 10-2 advantage over Villanova in the all-time series. Each Wildcat win has been recorded on their home court. Nova's first win came in five sets during the 2015 season. They also won 3-0 in 2017. Georgetown notched just their second win over Butler earlier this season, moving the all-time series to 10-2. The Hoyas first win over Butler was a five-set match in Washington, D.C. in 2017.
Villanova at Butler Recap (Oct. 6)
Butler recorded a 3-1 win vs. Villanova at Hinkle Fieldhouse (25-27, 25-17, 25-20, 25-21). Four different Bulldogs hit a double figure kill total and setter
Maddie Freiwald posted a double-double with 45 assists and 18 digs.
Elizabeth LaBue impacted the match with 17 digs and a team-high four service aces. Butler ended the match with a season-high 12 service aces.
Georgetown at Butler Recap (Oct. 5)
The Hoyas swept the Bulldogs in the first meeting (21-25, 22-25, 21-25). Alyssa Sinnette led the way with 15 kills and three service aces. Butler hit .154 as a team. Top performances were turned in by
Brooke Gregory,
Rachel Klitzing and
Natalie Ravenell. That trio combined for 22 of Butler's 29 kills.
All-Time Best Blocker
Bri Lilly has recorded more block assists than any other player in Butler volleyball history. Lilly broke the school record against Villanova on Oct. 6 when she recorded four block assists against the Wildcats. That effort moved her career total to 415, one more than the previous record holder Krystal Hendrix ('03-'06). Lilly now has 461 block assists in her Butler career. She has reached 100 total blocks during all four of her seasons at BU.
Lilly Reaches 500 career blocks
Bri Lilly became just the fourth player in program history to reach 500 career blocks. The senior middle blocker recorded six blocks in the win over Seton Hall to reach the milestone. She now ranks second all-time at Butler with 520 total blocks. First-place belongs to Amy Pickett who accumulated 536 blocks (1995-98).
Action at the Net
Only three teams have ended a match with more total blocks than Butler this season (Pittsburgh, Auburn, Creighton). Butler's highest block total this season came at St. John's (23).
Melody Makes a Difference
Freshman
Melody Davidson has recorded six or more blocks in five-straight matches. Her season-best total came at St. John's (10).
Horn No Longer Hurt
Shay Horn was injured in the first set vs. Georgetown and therefore missed the Villanova match the following day. She missed six total games from Oct. 6-26.
