Temple Sets School Record in Setback to Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Dolphins punched in the game-winning touchdown with just five seconds left in the fourth quarter to defeat Butler on Saturday afternoon by the final score of 48-44. Senior WR Pace Temple led Butler on the day with 12 catches for 196 yards and a touchdown. Temple became the all-time school leader in career receiving yards with 3,123.

Temple scored the final points of an action packed first half. Jacksonville raced out to a 14-0 lead after two long rushing touchdowns, but a seven-yard score from Anthony Scaccia and a 1-yard TD run from QB Will Marty would get Butler back within one at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter was more of the same as Calvin Turner Jr. got loose for a 58-yard TD run for the Dolphins to give Jacksonville a 21-13 advantage. BU answered with a three-yard TD run from Marty to get back within a point.

14 more points would hit the scoreboard in the final three minutes of the first half as Jacksonville connected on a 57-yard TD pass from Turner, Jr. to Prince Gray with 2:33 to play. Marty would account for his third TD of the day and his first through the air with a five-yard connection to Temple with just 19 seconds left.

The first points of the third quarter would belong to Jacksonville after an 11-yard TD run from Irvin Riley. Butler's lone points of the third came off the leg of Drew Bevelhimer. The junior connected from 26-yards out to make the score 35-30.

Butler would take the lead in the opening stages of the fourth quarter off a 52-yard bomb from Marty to Thomas Baldwin. The Dolphins would not go away however as Riley would once again find pay dirt, this time from 52-yards out.

Butler looked to be in good shape with the game on the line. Scaccia recorded his second touchdown of the game with just 3:22 left on the game clock and a two-point conversion from Marty to Sam Yeaton would give the 'Dawgs a three-point lead at 44-41. The lead wouldn't last however as Jacksonville drove the ball down 48 yards on 12 plays to earn the win. Turner, Jr. rushed for a three-yard score to win the game.

Turner, Jr. was one of three Dolphins to rush for 100+ yards. He ended the contest with 194 yards on the ground and 57 through the air. He accounted for three total touchdowns, while Irvin added all three of his on the ground. The other TD was provided by Nicolas.

Scaccia and Marty each scored two rushing touchdowns but the yard's leader for BU on Saturday was Brad Sznajder with 70. Marty went off for four total touchdowns adding 425 passing yards to his stat line. He completed 29 of his 40 attempts to keep BU alive until the very end.

On the other side of the ball, Butler got a game-high 17 tackles out of safety Luke Sennett. Carter Raleigh and Mickey Kane were also impact players with three tackles for loss each.

Butler's last home game of the 2018 season will be played next Saturday on Nov. 10. Senior Day falls on Family Weekend this year as the Bulldogs play host to the Stetson Hatters at 12 PM.
