The Bulldogs picked up their first win of the young 2018 season, picking up a 2-0 win over North Florida Saturday afternoon at the Friends of Jaclyn Invitational hosted by Central Florida.
Earlier in the day, Butler dropped a 7-4 decision to North Carolina.
The Bulldogs are now 1-3 on the season.
Against North Florida, sophomore
Gabbi Schnaiter posted the shutout, scattering three hits and two walks in her seven innings of work. She struck out three.
Butler pushed across single runs in the first and sixth innings.
In the first, junior
Jenna Foreman led off the inning with a single to left field. She stole second and was sacrificed to third by
Alyssa Garcia. Foreman scored when North Florida's left fielder dropped a
Sarah Dixon fly ball. North Texas used a double play to get out of the inning after allowing only one run.
Butler pushed across an insurance run in the sixth inning. With two outs,
Elyse Babb walked. Back-to-back singles by
Sammy Andersen and
Claire Gilliland scored pinch-runner
Christina Candotti.
Foreman and Garcia each had two of Butler's nine hits.
In the opener Saturday, North Carolina posted two runs in both the fourth and sixth innings to pull out a 7-4 win.
Earlier in the game, Butler erased a 3-0 deficit with three runs of its own in the third inning.
The three runs came on a throwing error and two hit by pitches with the bases loaded.
Foreman went 3-for-4 at the plate, while Garcia had two hits and walk in three plate appearances.
Alyssa Graves took the loss for Butler, allowing five runs in four innings. Schnaiter pitched the final two innings in relief.
Katie Grace Olinger got the start for UNC and allowed four runs (one earned) in three-plus innings. Brittany Pickett pitched four shutout innings in relief.
Butler finishes off weekend play in the Sunshine State Sunday morning with a 9:30 a.m. first pitch against South Alabama.
