@ButlerSoftball Wins a Pair on Wednesday


TAMPA, Fla. – Butler improved to 8-12 on the year after recording wins over Lehigh and Quinnipiac on Wednesday. The 'Dawgs won in eight innings over Lehigh 5-4, and scored five more runs in the three-run win vs. Quinnipiac.
 
BU scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to send the first game into extras. The 'Dawgs would take a 1-0 lead after a solo homer from Alyssa Lach, but Lehigh would battle back to take a 4-1 advantage.
 
BU stayed alive in the bottom of the seventh with Jenna Foreman picking up two RBI on a single to left. Alyssa Garcia would also come up clutch with a single back up the middle of the field that would score Emma Morton.
 
The game-winner came from Sammy Andersen who singled to centerfield to win the game. Sarah Dixon was on the base path to lift BU to victory.
 
The win went to Alyssa Graves (4-4) while the loss fell to Emily Sorem (1-6). Graves tossed all eight innings. She struck out four and walked three.
 
Game two of the doubleheader featured Butler scoring five runs in the fifth to record a 5-2 win. Kaitlin Doud earned the win on the mound (3-3) while Abbey Long was hit with the loss (0-4). Doud was the only player to pitch in the nightcap. She ended the game with three strikeouts.
 
A scoring recap for BU featured an RBI single from Lach, and a sacrifice fly from Christina Candotti. Morton would score off a wild pitch, Dixon scored off an error and Andersen would cross home plate after a passed ball.
