KALAMAZOO, Mich. –
Connor Mitchell threw a complete game, two-hit shutout on Friday afternoon to lead Butler past Western Michigan 3-0. He struck out 10 and only issued one walk to record his second win of the season.
Butler scored three runs in the top of the first inning and that's all they would need due to Mitchell's performance.
Jacob Margroff doubled down the left field line to open the game and a single to center from
Gehrig Parker would send Margroff home to score the first run.
Michael Hartnagel would also double down the line in left to score Parker and a double steal would make the game 3-0.
Hartnagel moved to third on a groundout from
Garrett Christman and
James Gargano would walk to put runners on the corners. Gargano and Hartnagel each took off in a double steal. Hartnagel crossed home plate to score the third run of the opening inning, but Gargano would be tagged out 2-6-3.
Butler totaled 11 hits on the day compared to just two from Western Michigan. The Broncos broke up the no-hitter in the bottom of the sixth. Their other base knock was recorded in the seventh.
Butler and Western Michigan will meet again tomorrow for a 3 PM first pitch.
