Bennett Lifts @ButlerUBaseball to Victory over Morehead State

INDIANAPOLIS – Butler collected their 20th win of the season on Wednesday afternoon with a 4-2 victory over the visiting Morehead State Eagles (20-14). Freshman Andy Bennett entered the game with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning as a pinch hitter. Bennett would deliver the game-winning hit for BU by finding room in left field. The two-RBI single broke a 2-2 tie and moved Butler to 20-8 overall.

Butler recorded nine hits on the day while limiting Morehead State to just four. Sam Hubbe had a great start on the mound that included 6.2 innings of action. Hubbe struck out three and limited the Eagles to just three hits. The win would move to Quentin Miller who recorded two outs out of the pen. Sophomore Ryan Pepiot would then take care of business in the ninth to earn the first save of his collegiate career.

Tyler Houston was the only Bulldog to record a multi-hit game. The senior outfielder went 2-for-4 on the day. RBI's went to Bennett, Zach Parker and Connor Christman.

Christman put BU on the scoreboard first with a triple to right field that scored James Gargano. Christman would make the game 2-0 after a sac fly from Zach Parker.

Morehead State pushed one run across in the fourth. Two BU errors impacted the action to extend the inning. The Eagles loaded the bases in the top of the seventh, but Kevin Napoleon would help BU get out of trouble with a groundout to first base.

Morehead State would not be denied in the eighth however as they scored a run on a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 2-2.

The Bulldogs didn't flinch in the bottom part of the eighth as Bennett pushed a ball into left to win the game. Pepiot would turn down the Eagles in order in the top of nine with a strikeout, a groundout and a foul out.

Butler will look to take this momentum into the weekend when they play a three-game series at Villanova.
