@ButlerUBaseball Wins Big at Villanova 13-5

PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. – Butler won their third-straight game on Friday afternoon with a 13-5 victory at Villanova. The Bulldogs scored eight runs in the top of the second inning to knock out the Nova starter. The win moves Butler to 21-8 overall, including a 2-1 mark against conference opponents.

Garrett Christman was once again an impact player for Butler. He went 3-for-3 in the game with two RBI and three runs scored. Zach Parker and Jacob Margroff were also in the box score with two RBI.

Margroff, Tyler Houston, Gehrig Parker and Michael Hartnagel combined to score five runs at the top of the order. That group came together for eight hits. Houston and Parker would also chip in with an RBI.

The team effort included Harrison Freed going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, Connor Dall going 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored and Zach Jarosz picking up an RBI and scoring a run.

Defensively, Butler would get six full innings out of starter Connor Mitchell. The lefty ace struck out seven and only walked one. John MacCauley would toss the next 1.2 innings and Quentin Miller would touch the rubber for an out. The final BU arm to see action was Landen Haney. He threw the ninth.

Nova threw the first punch by pushing a run across in the bottom of the first inning. That solo score would not impact the game however with BU scoring eight runs off six hits in the top of two.

Garrett Christman, Freed and Dall would all single to lead off the frame and load the bases. Doty clearly felt the pressure and walked Zach Parker to tie the game at 1-1. Jarosz would follow in the order and also draw a walk.

Doty wouldn't make it out of the inning as he was eventually replaced by Sgaramella. Christman would come around again in the order to pick up two RBI with a single through the right side. Freed would add the final RBI of the frame and give BU a comfortable lead.

Butler scored two more runs in the fourth. Hartnagel would double to right with one out and Christman would walk signaling the end of the game for Sgaramella. Esp hit Freed to load the bases and Dall would draw a walk for an RBI. Zach Parker hit a deep sac fly to left center, scoring Christman and the 'Dawgs would lead 10-1 after four.

Zach Parker scored in the seventh off a wild pitch and his brother Gehrig would homer in the ninth to take Butler to 13 total runs.

BU will try to carry this momentum into their game tomorrow which features a 1 PM start time.
