Butler used a come-from-behind, extra-inning win Saturday at Georgetown to negotiate a split of a key BIG EAST doubleheader. The Bulldogs won 7-6 in the second game after dropping the opening contest, 6-2.
Butler's 7-6 win came on a
Madi Christiansen home run in the top of the eighth inning.
Heading into Sunday's series finale, Butler is 4-4 in conference play, while the Hoyas are 4-6.
In the second game, Georgetown took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Butler got on the board in the top of the fourth as senior
Alyssa Lach led off the inning with a solo home run over the center field fence. The margin would return to three runs (4-1) as Georgetown led off the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run as well.
That score would remain until the sixth inning when the Bulldogs pushed across three runs to tie the game.
Payton Longest's triple to center field scored two teammates and Longest crossed the plate with the tying run on
Elyse Babb's sacrifice fly.
Another solo home run leading off the inning put Georgetown back in front 5-4 in the bottom of the sixth.
It was in the seventh that Butler would take their first lead of the game.
Sammy Andersen tripled in
Jenna Foreman with one out.
Kaitlin Doud then scored her with a two-out double to left center for a 6-5 advantage.
In the bottom of the seventh with two outs, Georgetown scored the tying run on four consecutive walks.
Christiansen then gave the Bulldogs the win with a two-out solo shot to center field.
Gabbi Schnaiter came on in the bottom of the eighth to close the door and register the save.
Foreman had three of Butler's 11 hits. Lach and Christiansen each had two.
Alyssa Graves was credited with the win; Doud pitched the first six innings, allowing five runs.
Georgetown took Saturday's first game, 6-2. After the Bulldogs had pulled within, 3-2, in the top of the sixth, the host Hoyas scored three in the bottom of the sixth to put the game away.
Lach had two of the Bulldogs' six hits in the game. Longest had an RBI double, while Doud plated the other run with a sacrifice fly.
Graves took the loss, allowing three runs in four innings of work.
