Butler dropped a 7-0 decision at Marquette Friday night in Milwaukee, Wis. The match was a rematch of the 2017 BIG EAST Tournament Championship, which the Bulldogs won.
Aviv Ben Shabat and
Mason Dragos won at No. 1 doubles, taking a 6-3 win over Brett Meyers and Alvaro Verdu. However, the Golden Eagles were able to take the other two doubles matches to clinch the doubles point.
In singles play, the first three courts all went three sets but Marquette was able to take each match.
Michael Dickson, at the No. 1 spot, and Dragos, playing No. 2, each dropped their singles contests in a third-set match tiebreaker once the team result had been clinched.
Marquette is 14-5 on the season, while Butler falls to 13-5. It marked Butler's first loss of the season to a BIG EAST opponent.
Butler continues play Saturday, traveling to DePaul for a 3:15 p.m. (Central) first serve.
