INDIANAPOLIS – The Seton Hall Pirates defeated Butler (24-9, 4-2) on Friday afternoon by the final score of 6-1. BU scored first with their lone run of the game coming in the bottom half of the first inning, but two home runs balls would lift SHU to victory (15-14-1, 3-1).
Garrett Christman hit an RBI single back up the middle of the field in the first inning to score
Gehrig Parker. Unfortunately for BU fans that would be the only RBI of the game for the Bulldogs who snapped a six-game winning streak against the Pirates.
Gehrig Parker would come up with two hits along with fellow senior
Michael Hartnagel. BU recorded seven total hits compared to 11 for the visitors. The error column also hurt Butler this afternoon as BU made four miscues in the setback.
The difference in game one of this three-game series came in the second inning.
Connor Mitchell would walk the lead-off man and a single would follow in the order to give SHU two on with no out. Each base runner would score to give Seton Hall the slim 2-1 advantage and then Rob Dadona would crush a three-run home run over the wall in leftfield.
Seton Hall's final run of the game came off a solo home run by Al Molina in the fifth inning.
Mitchell was hit with the loss (3-3) while Shane McCarthy picked up the win (3-3). Each program used three arms on the day.
Game two of the three-game series will be played tomorrow at 2 PM. Game three features a 12PM first pitch on Sunday.
