The Bulldogs (3-0) pulled off the upset Sunday afternoon, knocking off nationally ranked Notre Dame 4-1. The Fighting Irish now fall to 3-1.
Leading the way for Butler was senior

nd and 88
th minute.
Freshman
Morgan Kloosterman scored her third goal in a Butler jersey in the 57
th minute, which was ultimately the game-winner. Freshman
Katie Soderstrom put an insurance goal in the back of the net for the Bulldogs in the 61
st minute.
The Bulldogs opened the first half with pace, as
Breann Pempek played a ball to
Anja Savich running on the right side. From there, Savich dished the ball off to Monaghan who buried the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal, past Notre Dame's keeper Mattie Interian.
Notre Dame put pressure on the Bulldogs in the first half but weren't able to put one away as Butler took the 1-0 lead into halftime. The Fighting Irish outshot the Bulldogs eight to five during the first 45 minutes. Starting goalie for the Bulldogs
Hannah Luedtke kept a clean sheet in the first half, making three saves.
The Fighting Irish began the second half pressing the Bulldogs and controlling possession, but the back line, anchored by
Julia Leonard,
Madison Toth, and
Annika Schmidt held strong.
Leonie Doege started the second half in goal for the Bulldogs, making a pivotal save in the 49
th minute off a penalty kick taken by Notre Dame's Olivia Wingate.
The momentum shifted back to the Bulldogs following Doege's save as Kloosterman sealed the victory just 12 minutes into the second half.
Four minutes later,
Katie Soderstrom scored her first goal in a Butler jersey off a rebounded shot from Monaghan to put the Bulldogs up 3-0 with 29 minutes to play.
The Irish did not go quietly, as Jen Westendorf scored Notre Dame's only goal of the game in the 68
th minute off an assist from Brooke VanDyck.
From there, it was all Bulldogs as Butler did not allow another goal. Monaghan sealed the victory in the 88
th minute as
Cassidy Blacha won a challenge at midfield and quickly dished the ball off to Monaghan, who then beat a Notre Dame defender and finished the ball past the keeper.
The second half told a different story as Butler outshot Notre Dame 10 to eight. Interian received the loss in goal for the Irish, making five saves. Luedtke improves her record in goal to 3-0.
The Bulldogs carry this momentum into two road games, taking on the Dayton Flyers on Aug. 30 and the Kansas Jayhawks on Sept. 2. Both games will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
