INDIANAPOLIS – The Bulldogs found the win column on Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 sweep over Eastern Illinois (25-18, 25-18, 28-26). Setter
Megan Ramseyer just missed a double-double with 32 assists and nine digs.
Ramseyer took over at setter for BU vs. the Panthers and responded with an excellent game. She also added five kills and a block to her stat line in Butler's first win of the season. Top targets for Ramseyer included
Natalie Ravenell,
Bri Lilly,
Brooke Gregory and
Melody Davidson.
Ravenell was once again the team leader in kills with 11. She hit .333 and was also a factor with three service aces. Lilly held the highest attack percentage of any player at .412. She recorded eight kills off 17 attempts with just one error.
Gregory and Davidson combined for 14 kills, collecting seven each.
Shay Horn (3) and
Taylor Takeda (1) rounded out the BU kill total (42).
Butler hit .250 as a team compared to .115 from EIU. The Panthers used three setters in the three set match. Their top targets at the net were Laurel Bailey and Maggie Runge who each supplied the team with seven kills.
Butler led from start to finish in the first set. Gregory led the way with four kills and the Butler defense was impressive with 3.5 team blocks. Action at the net impacted the flow of the game with EIU hitting just .047.
Set two featured a fast start from BU as the 'Dawgs opened up an early 6-1 lead. That cushion would hold up for the remainder of the set giving BU the 2-0 lead.
Ravenell shined in set two with a team-high eight kills. She hit .538 and also chipped in with four digs.
The third and final set was a marathon with Butler trailing a majority of the way. The Panthers made some substitutions and the strategy paid off early. EIU grabbed a 7-2 lead and would stay in front until Butler tied the set at 23-23. Ravenell and Lilly would come up clutch at the end the match and Butler would taste victory for the first time this season with a 28-26 win.
Butler will return to action later tonight with a 7 PM match against Illinois State.
