No. 25 Creighton posted a 3-0 win over Butler Saturday night in Omaha, Neb., in the BIG EAST opener for both teams. After a scoreless first half, the Bluejays took control of the match with two goals in the first five minutes of the second half.
Ziyad Fares took a long ball from Luke Haakenson and then found the net in the 48
th minute. Less than two minutes later, Sven Koenig collected a deflected ball and scored to give the Bluejays a 2-0 lead.
Koenig scored again in the 74
th minute, less than two minutes after Butler went a man down in the match.
Butler freshman keeper
Gabriel Gjergji made seven saves on the night. Creighton had a 16-5 advantage in shots.
Brandon Guhl and
Michael Peay each had two shots for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs fall to 1-4-1 on the season.
Creighton improves to 4-1-1.
Butler returns to action a week from tonight, hosting Providence in a BIG EAST match-up at 7 p.m. The BIG EAST Digital Network will air the match live.
