INDIANAPOLIS – Butler went 2-1 in the 2018 Bulldog Brawl after recording a 3-0 sweep over Kent State (25-12, 25-18, 25-16). The Bulldogs improve to 3-9 on the year with the victory.
 
The balanced tournament field came to a close with Butler and Cleveland State each recording two win to go along with one loss. Santa Clara and Kent State each exited the tournament with 1-2 records.
 
The nightcap featured Butler hitting .327 against the Golden Flashes to pick up the win. Butler controlled action at the net with 10 team blocks compared to just two from the visitor.
 
Bri Lilly was the player of the match for BU. The senior led the team with 13 kills and eight blocks. Elizabeth LaBue led Butler with 14 digs and Brooke Gregory was second on the team with eight kills. Both LaBue and Gregory would land on the all-tournament team at the conclusion of the match.
 
Butler got a lift from setter Megan Ramseyer. The newcomer posted 33 assists, five digs, four blocks and four kills. Natalie Ravenell was yet another Bulldog to impact the outcome. She ended the night with seven kills and eight digs.
 
Butler led from start to finish in the opening set to jump out on top 1-0 with a 25-12 win. Lilly made a statement early with five kills on just nine swings with no errors (.556).
 
The mood didn't change in set two as BU jumped out in front 8-4. They raced to the finish line 25-18 to take a commanding 2-0 lead into the break. Ramseyer spread the ball around in set two which led to Ravenell, Gregory, Lilly and Melody Davidson each recording three kills.
 
Butler kept their foot on the gas in the third set to own an 11-4 lead. Lilly and Gregory combined for nine kills in the finale and the Bulldogs would cruise to the finish line 25-16.
 
BIG EAST play will start up next weekend with Butler playing both Seton Hall and St. John's on the road.
