@ButlerVB Sweeps Santa Clara Saturday Morning

INDIANAPOLIS – Butler notched their second win of the season on Saturday morning with a 3-0 sweep over Santa Clara (25-19, 25-23, 25-22). The Bulldogs won the battle at the net to record 12 team blocks in the victory.

Bri Lilly and Melody Davidson were each credited with six blocks in the win. Natalie Ravenell added five and Brooke Gregory was in the box score with four. The strong effort up front limited the Broncos to a .146 attack percentage.

Gregory was also the driving force for the BU offensive attack. The junior recorded a team-high 14 kills in the win. She hit .400 by only committing two errors. Ravenell was second on the team with nine kills. She just missed a double-double by adding 10 blocks.

Yet another Bulldog to just miss a double-double was setter Megan Ramseyer. The newcomer posted 29 assists and nine digs.

Lilly and Davidson did more than block at the net in the win over Santa Clara. Lilly added eight kills and four digs while Davidson gave the home team five kills. Rounding out the kill total was Shay Horn with five and Ramseyer with two.

Emma Milstead was the team leader in digs with 13. Teammate Elizabeth LaBue was close behind in that category with 12.

Set one was dominated by Gregory who collected nine of her 14 kills in the opener. Butler would break a 5-5 tie and never trail again.

It took a total team effort to mount a comeback in set two to give Butler the 2-0 advantage. The 'Dawgs trailed 23-19 after a kill from Allison Kantor, but would fight back and tie the action at 23-23 after a brief timeout.

Lilly came alive down the stretch to pull BU within one and a few great serves from Milstead would give Butler the 2-0 lead.

The third and final set also came down to the wire. BU and Santa Clara were tied up at 20-20, but the Bulldogs would finish the match on a 5-2 scoring run to earn the win.

Butler will play again tonight at 7 PM against the Kent State Golden Flashes. A complete all-tournament team will be announced after the match.
