The Butler men's tennis team played a competitive weekend of tennis at Western Michigan's Vredevelt Invitational in Kalamzoo. The weekend was highlighted by Aviv Ben Shabat and Mason Dragos sweeping the doubles A-flight 3-0 on Friday, along with Dragos, Ben Shabat, and Michael Dickson earning a spot on the All-Tournament team.

The pair of Ben Shabat and Dragos defeated Detroit Mercy 6-3, Western Michigan 6-4, and Valparaiso 6-3 to take the top spot. Dickson and Sam Sullivan also saw success as a doubles team Friday, going 2-1 and taking the runner-up spot in the B-flight. The pair defeated Notre Dame 7-6 (5-0) and Chicago 6-1, their only loss coming at the hands of host Western Michigan (6-3).

Adrian Mag and Lope Adelakun, and freshman pair Ryan Roegner and Drew Michael went 1-2 on the day. The rookies defeated Detroit Mercy 7-6 (5-0) and fell to Notre Dame 6-3, and Valparaiso 6-4. Mag and Adelakun beat the pair from Illinois State 6-4 and were defeated by Michigan State 7-6 (4-0) and Valparaiso 7-5.

Singles play opened on Saturday and finished on Sunday with all but two Bulldogs posting a 2-1 record. Dickson represented the Bulldogs in the A-flight, defeating Johnathan Small of Notre Dame 7-5, 6-4 and Western Michigan's Jannick Opitz 3-6, 6-2, 10-4. His only loss coming against Luka Suski from Detroit Mercy 6-7 (0-5), 6-2, 10-8. Dickson earned First Team All-Tournament for his performance.

Dragos and Ben Shabat were both in the C-flight, each finishing 2-1. Ben Shabat took down Purdue's Franz Luna 4-6, 6-2, 10-6 and Western Michigan's Eric Olivarez 6-2, 6-2. Valparaiso's Brandon Ancona was his only loss, falling 4-6, 6-2, 10-6. Ben Shabat's performance earned him First Team All-Tournament honors.

Dragos, named to the All-Tournament Second Team, defeated Ninan Kumar of Chicago 3-1 (retired) and Purdue's Franz Luna 2-6, 6-1, 10-8. His only loss came at the hands of Western Michigan's Jack Randall 3-6, 6-3, 10-8.

Roegner (G-flight), Adelakun (G-flight), and Michael (I-flight) were the three other Bulldogs to post a 2-1 record. Sam Sullivan (H-flight) and Adrian Mag (D-flight), each 0-3, rounded out the eight Bulldog competitors.
