The Bulldogs (8-3-0, 2-0-0) recorded their second win in BIG EAST play Thursday evening as they took down the Seton Hall Pirates (2-5-0, 0-2-0) 3-0. With the win, Butler remains undefeated at the Sellick Bowl in 2018.
The 3-0 victory marks the sixth shutout for Butler this season.
Three different Bulldogs found the back of the net for Butler, with the home team scoring one in the first half and two in the second half to secure the victory.
Freshman
Anja Savich notched her sixth goal of the season, her second in two games, in the 27
th minute.
Cassidy Blacha sent a ball from midfield over the Pirate defenders as Savich got on the end of it and pushed the ball past starting keeper for Seton Hall, Maddie MacLean, to put the Bulldogs up 1-0.
The Bulldogs had plenty of opportunities in the first half, tallying eight shots compared to just one by the Pirates. Cassy Harrigan had Seton Hall's only shot which was saved by Butler's starting goalie
Hannah Luedtke. MacLean made four saves in the first period for Seton Hall.
The second half was more of the same as the Bulldogs continued to pile on shots. The Bulldogs put another on the board just two minutes into the first half as
Halle Stelbasky scored her third goal of the season off an assist from
Madison Toth.
Amanda Kowalski put the final goal in the net for the Bulldogs in the 62
nd minute. Kowalski sent a corner kick into the box that MacLean attempted to save but ultimately found the top of the net in favor of Butler to put the Bulldogs up 3-0.
Butler tallied 10 more shots in the second half compared to just one by the Pirates.
Leonie Doege took over in goal for the Bulldogs in the second half, making one save. Butler also held the advantage in corner kicks, taking seven compared to four by Seton Hall.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Sunday, Sept. 30, hosting Providence at 1 p.m. The match will stream live on the Butler Bulldogs Facebook page.
