St. John's Tops @ButlerMSoccer, 2-0, Saturday Night in New York

St. John's scored two goals in the first 21 minutes of a Saturday night match with Butler and saw that score hold in a 2-0 victory. The teams met in Queens, N.Y.

Brandon Duarte scored in the 13th minute and then Skage Simonsen headed in his fourth goal of the season eight minutes later for the early 2-0 lead.

That would prove to be the final score as St. John's improves to 6-3-1 overall and 2-0-1 in BIG EAST play. Butler is now 2-6-1 (0-3).

The Bulldogs nearly cut the lead in half in the 71st minute as Brandon Guhl found the net for the Bulldogs, but the goal was disallowed after Butler was called offsides on the play.

St. John's posted the shutout with Lenny Wilson in goal. He made four saves.

Each team took 12 shots.

Butler freshman keeper Gabriel Gjergji made three saves on the evening.

The Bulldogs return to action Tuesday night at Evansville. The 7 p.m. (Eastern, 6 p.m. Central) kick will be streamed live on ESPN+ (subscription may be required).
