INDIANAPOLIS – The Butler Bulldogs swept Providence on Saturday night to record their fifth victory of the season (25-18, 25-11, 25-19). BU hit .319 in the win while recording 10 total team blocks.
A total team effort lifted BU over PC on Saturday as seven different Bulldogs recorded a kill and nine different student-athletes notched a dig. The offense ran through
Rachel Klitzing and
Melody Davidson who tied for the team lead in kills with eight each. Davidson doubled as the team leader in blocks with six.
Bri Lilly was in the box score with seven kills and four blocks. Teammate
Brooke Gregory posted six kills and
Natalie Ravenell was credited with four.
BU setter
Megan Ramseyer ended the contest with 29 assists, seven digs, three blocks and two kills. Defensively, BU got a lift from libero
Elizabeth LaBue who recorded a team-high 10 digs.
Butler opened up a 1-0 lead after not trailing in the first set. A quick 2-2 tie turned into a 13-5 advantage and the 'Dawgs would cruise to the finish line 25-18. Lilly and Klitzing recorded seven of Butler's nine kills in the opener. Coach Clark also used two setters in Ramseyer and
Maddie Freiwald.
Set two opened with Butler scoring the first three points. A 12-3 lead at the midway point would be too much for PC to overcome which led to the 2-0 advantage. Davidson came alive offensively in the second to record five kills off eight attempts with no errors (.625).
The Bulldogs were able to end the night after three sets thanks to
Brooke Gregory and her five kills. Gregory hit .556 in the third as the 'Dawgs closed down the set 25-19.
Next week will be busy for BU with Butler traveling to DePaul midweek. They return home for a weekend series that includes home tilts vs. Georgetown and Villanova.
