SCOUTING DEPAUL: The Blue Demons opened up the 2019 season with an 8-1 record, but followed that effort with a five-match losing streak. They broke that streak over the weekend, by winning 3-1 at home over Seton Hall. Brittany Maxwell is the player to keep an eye on when BU hosts DePaul in the BIG EAST home opener on BEDN. Maxwell ranks third in the conference in kills per set (3.83) and is one of only four players in the BIG EAST to post more than 200 kills at this point in the season. Head Coach Marie Zidek has league leaders on the roster in digs and hitting percentage. Isabelle Banez averages 5.22 digs per set and is the only BIG EAST player to have more than 300 digs this season. Donna Brown is a weapon beside Maxwell with a .427 attack percentage.

DePaul ranks second in the BIG EAST in both assists (12.93) and kills (13.93).

SCOUTING GEORGETOWN: The Hoyas are 11-5 under the direction of Head Coach Toby Rens. This is a unit that won eight-straight matches before running into nationally-ranked Creighton on Sunday. Georgetown leads the BIG EAST in service aces and opponent hitting percentage. They have 114 total aces, an average of 1.90 per set. Opponents are only hitting .153 against GU this season. Iva Vujoevic leads the team in service aces (28) and kills (201). The 5-11 senior had five aces in a 3-0 sweep over Howard. Her best all-around performance included 26 kills and 24 digs in a win over Sacred Heart.

SCOUTING VILLANOVA: The Wildcats are 10-3 after splitting a pair of conference matches over the weekend. They lost 3-0 to #14 Creighton, but responded with a 3-1 win over Providence. Villanova leads the conference with a .279 hitting percentage. Mallory Potts and Sanaa Barnes are the only two players on the team with 100+ kills and each student-athlete is hitting over .290. Allie Olsonoski ranks second in the BIG EAST with a .376 attack percentage.

Emma Decker sets up the attack for Nova. She ranks second in the conference in assists (10.12).

NCAA RANKINGS: Butler leads the BIG EAST and ranks 26th in the NCAA in team attacks per set (37.35). They are also first in the league and 45th in the country in digs per set (16.19).

Melody Davidson leads the BIG EAST and ranks 61st in the NCAA in total blocks (59). Elizabeth LaBue ranks 54th in the nation in total digs (248).

BIG EAST HOME OPENERS: Butler is just 1-5 in BIG EAST home openers since joining the BIG EAST in 2013. The lone win came vs. Providence in 2016.

ALL-TIME SERIES: Butler leads the all-time series over DePaul 18-9. They lost 2-3 at DePaul last year, but swept them inside Hinkle Fieldhouse. BU leads Georgetown in the all-time series 10-3. The Hoyas won each meeting a year ago 3-0. The Bulldogs are also ahead 10-3 in the all-time series vs. Villanova. They won 3-1 at home last year, but lost 3-0 at Nova.

FLIP THE SCRIPT: Last year Butler played at DePaul on a Wednesday and would host Georgetown and Villanova over the weekend to play three matches in just four days. They lost 2-3 at DePaul and took a 3-0 setback vs. Georgetown. BU ended that stretch with a 3-1 win at home over Villanova.

NEW YEAR, NEW LOOK: Anna Logan and Brittany Maxwell each lead their team in kills and each player missed the entire 2018 season.

Maxwell and Logan were each named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.

SCHORR AT SETTER: Maria Schorr was the primary setter in the final two games of the regular season for Butler last year vs. Georgetown and Villanova. She came up with a season-high 15 assists last week at Marquette.
