Butler and DePaul played 110 minutes Saturday night, ending the BIG EAST contest in a 2-2 draw.
With the result, Butler is now 6-4-1 overall and 1-2-1 in BIG EAST play. DePaul is now 4-5-3 (0-1-3 BIG EAST).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
With Butler leading 2-1 in the 90
th minute, the Bulldogs were called for a foul just inside the box that resulted in a penalty kick. The conversion by Max De Bruijne knotted the match at 2-2, which is how it ended after 20 extra minutes.
The Bulldogs erased a 1-0 halftime deficit with goals in the 49
th and 78
th minutes. The first goal was a blast from 20 yards out off the right foot of senior
Derek Sutton. The second tally was a header by
Jared Timmer off a corner kick served up by
Jack Haywood.
DePaul's 1-0 first half lead came off a left-footed shot by Jake Fuderer in the 19
th minute. It came off a free kick from 25 yards away.
Each team had a goal disallowed due to offsides calls. Butler looked to score in the eighth minute after a flurry of five passes within the box, but the goal was pulled off the board with an offsides call. DePaul's attempt at taking a 2-1 lead in the 67
th minute was also disallowed.
