Butler continued fall tournament play with a weekend of matches a few hours south at the University of Louisville Invitational.
Sophomore
Thomas Brennan won the consolation bracket of the A singles flight. After dropping an opening-round decision to eventual champion Tom Moonen of Middle Tennessee, Brennan responded with a straight-set victory over East Tennessee State's Dylan Bednarczyk and a 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7) win over Pablo Caffarena of Lipscomb to win the consolation final.
Sophomore
Drew Michael won the G singles flight. After an opening-round bye, Michael knocked off Austin Peay's Julius Gold, 6-2, 6-4. Michael needed a third-set match tiebreaker to defeat Xavier's Aaron Thompson in the semifinals before defeating another Xavier player, Dominic Macaluso, 7-5, 6-2, in the flight's championship match.
In B singles flight action, freshmen
Olof Wiklund and
Filip Tensing each won a consolation match in straight sets, going 1-2 respectively in flight play.
Sophomore
Ryan Roegner advanced to the consolation final in D singles play, utilizing a pair of match tiebreaker decisions over Temple's Francisco Bohorquez (6-0, 4-6, 11-9) and Xavier's Matt Graff (4-6, 6-2, 10-7). Roegner ended up falling to Austin Peay's Christian Alvin Edison, 6-0, 7-6.
Freshman
Zach Trimpe won his opening match in E singles play, 8-2, over Xavier's Mike Lee. He then fell in a third-set match tiebreaker to Paul Reynolds of Bellarmine.
Freshman
Michael Karr advanced all the way to the consolation final of the F singles bracket. After losing his first match, Karr won straight-set match-ups with Parrish Simmons of Ball State and Jacob Lorino of Austin Peay. He dropped the consolation final to Erik Gran of Youngstown State.
Brennan and Wiklund combined for a 1-1 mark in A doubles play. The Butler duo knocked off the top team from host Louisville, 6-4, before falling to Kentucky's Bougois/Hurrion, 6-4, in the semifinals. The Kentucky tandem would eventually win the flight.
The Bulldogs return to action with the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Oct. 24-29. The event will be contested on the Vanderbilt campus in Nashville, Tenn.
