MATCH NOTES

INDIANAPOLIS
– The Bulldogs will travel to Creighton to take on the 11th-ranked Bluejays this Friday night at DJ Sokol Arena. The weekend will come to a close with a 1 PM Sunday match at Providence. These matches mark the mid-way point of the BIG EAST season.
 
Bulldog Bits
- Butler has won four of their last five matches to move into third place of the BIG EAST standings.
- Brooke Gregory averaged 1.57 blocks per set last week in wins over St. John's and Seton Hall.
- Butler posted 15 team blocks in the win over STJ.
- Gregory and Melody Davidson account for 23 solo blocks matching the season total of both Creighton and Providence.
- Davidson is hitting .300 over the last five matches.
- Jillian Ziemba has recorded six aces over Butler's last two matches.
- Ziemba posted a season-high 13 digs in the win over St. John's.
- Butler recorded a season-best .426 attack percentage in the 3-0 sweep over Seton Hall.
- BU came up with 48 kills in the win vs. SHU, their highest total in a three-set match this season.
- Anna Logan ranks 8th all-time at Butler with 1,388 career kills. She needs 10 more to move into seventh.
- BU leads the conference in digs per set (16.19).
- Butler's only win on the road this season came at Georgetown (3-2).
- Butler already has more wins during the month of October in 2019 (4) than they did in 2018 (3).
- Megan Ramseyer recorded a season-high two service aces vs. St. John's.
- Shay Horn has scored 10+ points in back-to-back matches.
 
SCOUTING CREIGHTON: The Bluejays are 13-3 overall with all three setbacks coming against nationally-ranked opponents. They most recently handed Marquette their first BIG EAST loss of the year with a 3-2 victory at the Al McGuire Center. Keely Davis is a player to keep an eye on Friday as one of the top talents in the conference. She posted a league-best 31 kills in the win at Marquette to lead the Bluejays to victory. The freshman ranks fifth in the league in kills per set (3.16). Brittany Witt leads the BIG EAST in digs per set (5.10) and Madelyn Cole is the league leader in assists per set (10.84).
 
Creighton lost at #2 Nebraska (3-1) and vs. #20 Baylor (3-0) to open the 2019 season. They have won 13 of their last 14 with the lone setback coming vs. #12 Washington (3-1).
 
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. CREIGHTON: Butler has just one win over Creighton in the all-time series. BU beat Creighton 3-1 during the 2013 campaign, Butler's first as a member of the BIG EAST. The Bluejays were ranked No. 22 at the time.
 
Creighton leads the all-time series 11-1.
 
SCOUTING PROVIDENCE: The Friars are 0-6 in conference play and 5-14 overall. Their last win came on Sept. 14 at home against Coppin State (3-1). Jennifer Leitman leads the team with 201 kills this season. She averages 3.09 kills per set, the sixth-best average in the BIG EAST. Allison Barber is a two-way talent that leads her team in both assists (613) and digs (208). The 5-11 junior also has a team-best 21 service aces in 2019.
 
The top performance from a Providence player this season came on Sept. 4 when Jenae Alderson recorded 12 kills in just 15 attempts to post a league-best .733 attack percentage against Merrimack.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. PROVIDENCE: Butler has never lost to Providence, giving them an 11-0 lead in the all-time series. The Friars have only won two sets against BU since 2014.
 
NCAA RANKINGS: Butler ranks 40th in the NCAA in team attacks per set (36.96), 48th in digs per set (16.19) and 78th in blocks per set (2.30).
 
Melody Davidson ranks 18th in the NCAA in total blocks (89). Elizabeth LaBue ranks 39th in the nation in total digs (336).
 
BIG EAST RANKINGS: Butler leads the BIG EAST in team digs (1,166) team total attacks (2,661) and team total blocks (165.5)
 
Melody Davidson ranks second in the BIG EAST in blocks per set (1.24). Elizabeth LaBue ranks fourth in digs per set (4.67) and Megan Ramseyer ranks fourth in assists per set (8.99).
 
BIG EAST WEEKLY HONOR ROLL: Brooke Gregory lifted Butler to a 2-0 weekend to move the Bulldogs to third in the league standings. The senior was second in the BIG EAST in blocks per set at 1.57 to go along with an average of 2.71 kills per set. Gregory posted 11 kills and eight blocks in a win over visiting St. John's, before recording eight kills on .667 hitting in a sweep of Seton Hall.
 
UP NEXT: Butler will host Villanova and Georgetown to wrap up the month of October. The Wildcats will play at Hinkle on Friday, Oct. 25. The Hoyas will visit on Sunday, Oct. 27 at 1 PM.
 
Butler won at Georgetown 3-2, but lost at Villanova 3-0.
