@ButlerWSoccer Forces Draw Against No. 11 Georgetown

The Butler women's soccer team went the distance with the No. 11 Georgetown Hoyas, forcing a 0-0 draw through 110 minutes of play.

The top two teams in the conference both add a tally to their tie column, Georgetown moving to 10-2-3 (4-0-2) and Butler shifting to 8-4-3 (3-1-2).

How It Happened:
The 2018 BIG EAST Championship rematch was defined by team defense on both sides.

Georgetown's offense controlled the ball for a majority of the first period and had a few scramble plays in the Bulldogs box that allowed the Hoyas three looks at the goal.

The No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the BIG EAST headed into the locker room scoreless, with only five total shots on the pitch, including two on target for the Bulldogs.

In the second half, the shot count picked up on both sides as the Hoyas had six strikes, including one on frame that was stopped by Stephanie Rodriguez.

The Bulldogs best chance in regulation came in the 53rd minute of play, as Macy Miller got a break away ball up the right side of the field, crossing it to Katie Soderstrom who took an uncontested shot on goal. The shot was saved by Hoyas keeper, Anna Leat.

Butler had another close call in the first overtime. Annika Schmidt attempted a header goal off a free kick that was batted away.  Celia Gaynor swooped in for a diving kick off the deflection that drilled the crossbar, leaving the score 0-0 going into a second overtime.

In the last 10 minutes of play, the Bulldogs defense stepped up, allowing only one shot, despite three corner opportunities from the Hoyas.

Coach St. John on the Match
"Georgetown easily has two of the best attacking players in the conference," said co-head coach Tari St. John. "I think we did a really good job defending, team defending, and getting into cover positions, but it wasn't at the expense of being able to go forward. I think we ended up making Anna Leat save five while Stephanie Rodriguez saved one, which again is a testament to the work that goes into both defending really well and team defending really well, but also that ability to move forward."
