INDIANAPOLIS – The Bulldog football team posted their first PFL win of the season on Saturday against Jacksonville with a 24-14 victory. Rain impacted the game that featured just 12 total pass attempts.
How It Happened
Butler outscored Jacksonville 10-0 in the second half to pull out their second win of the season. The Bulldog defense flipped the momentum of the game in the early stages of the third quarter. Jacksonville converted on fourth down from their own 44 out of the half and they would go for it again on fourth and one at the BU 45.
Their third fourth-down try on that drive failed at the Butler 22 with the Bulldog D standing strong at the line of scrimmage. That stop ignited the sideline and the offense would march down the field to cover 71 yards on 10 plays and take the lead on a
Drew Bevelhimer 25-yard field goal.
The insurance touchdown came from
Brad Sznajder in the fourth quarter. Sznajder rushed for a two-yard score at the 10:38 mark to give BU the 24-14 win. Butler's first TD of the game was also a rushing touchdown.
Kavon Samuels scored on an eight-yard run, but a failed extra point would keep the scoreboard at 7-6.
Devin Aguilar helped setup the first BU TD. Aguilar broke on a ball near the BU sideline to record his second interception of the season. He ran 41 yards up the sideline to give BU great field position.
Sznajder was in the box score with two rushing touchdowns and a team-best 150 rushing yards. His first half TD came from three yards away.
Key Moment
A costly penalty would extend a Butler drive near the end of the second quarter.
Drew Bevelhimer ran onto the field for a 22-yard field goal attempt with 6:46 left on the game clock. The kick was good, but a Dolphin defender would take out Bevelhimer's plant leg, resulting in a 15-yard penalty and a Butler first down. Butler scored on the very next play with
Brad Sznajder finding the end zone from three yards out. The game would move to 14-14 on a two-point conversion from the Bulldogs.
Cameron Towns hit
Austin Schwantz in the left side of the end zone to knot the score.
