Marist Holds Off @ButlerUFootball 37-27

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Butler had more first downs and total yards of offense than Marist on Saturday afternoon, but the Red Foxes would use a powerful rushing attack to claim a 37-27 victory. The Bulldogs are now 2-7 overall with a 1-4 mark against PFL opponents.

How It Happened
Hunter Cobb ran for 146 yards and three touchdowns against Butler on Saturday to lift Marist to their third league win of the 2019 campaign. The 'Dawgs would trail 10-0 after one, but got right back into the game by scoring touchdowns on back-to-back possessions to open up the second quarter. Nick Orlando found Stephen Dennis for the first BU touchdown of the day. The 46-yard TD pass moved the score to 10-7.

Nearly one minute later it was the Butler defense putting points on the board. Safety Beau Snuggs came up with his third interception of the season and ran it back to the house to give BU the 14-10 lead. Snuggs covered 40 yards on the return to give BU their only lead of the contest.

Cobb's first rushing TD of the game would follow to give Marist a 17-14 advantage. A Red Fox 28-yard field goal before the half would give the home team a 20-14 cushion at the half.

That six-point difference would vanish in the third quarter in part to two Drew Bevelhimer field goals (52, 39) and great defensive play. The 'Dawgs outscored Marist 6-0 in the third to tie the game at 20-20.

Cobb would take over the fourth quarter with his second and third touchdowns of the game. He punched in a nine-yard run with 10:44 to play in the fourth and added some insurance with a 21-yard run under the two minute warning. Nick Orlando scrambled in from three yards out to give Butler their final touchdown of the game.
