INDIANAPOLIS – The Bulldogs earned their ninth win of the season on Sunday afternoon by defeating Georgetown 3-0. Butler improves to 6-4 in the BIG EAST standings with the victory.
How It Happened
Set one belonged to Butler and would set the tone for the rest of the afternoon. Butler hit .308 as a team compared to -.059.
Brooke Gregory led the way with four kills and
Megan Sheridan would cash in on three of her four attempts to hit .750 in the opener.
Butler pulled away with a 7-2 scoring run that moved the scoreboard to 13-9. A second Georgetown timeout would be called with BU leading 17-11. The stoppage didn't slow down the attack as BU cruised to a 25-13 win.
Set two started to take form after a 3-0 BU scoring run. The 'Dawgs worked for a 15-10 lead and that advantage would grow to 20-13 after an ace from
Shay Horn. The Hoyas would score three of the next four points, but a Butler block would move the 'Dawgs to set point and
Megan Sheridan would end the action with a kill 25-20.
Butler controlled the action in the third set and would own a 10-5 lead over Georgetown before the first Hoya timeout. A 6-1 BU scoring run would force Georgetown into calling their second timeout of the set. Butler enjoyed a 14-6 lead during the break.
Iva Vujosevic ignited a 6-0 scoring run in the third that got Georgetown back within two at 15-13. Horn would end the streak with a kill off a
Megan Ramseyer assist, but the 'Dawgs were not able to pull away. Georgetown tied the score at 22-22 and extra points would be needed to finish off the Hoyas. In the end, Georgetown miscues would clear the way for the 29-27 victory.
