@ButlerUMTennis Notches Several Singles Wins at ITA Regionals

The Bulldogs wrapped up play at ITA Regionals over the weekend in Nashville, Tenn. The multi-day tournament was hosted by Vanderbilt University and included teams from 22 Division I programs.

"I was very pleased with the way that our guys competed in singles," said coach Sam Miles. "We had some mixed results, but overall we were very competitive in a tournament featuring some talented teams. In doubles we struggled a big, but that is to be expected with a young roster. We will learn from it and continue to try and play a more aggressive style."

Singles Matches
Drew Michael posted three wins on the weekend. His only loss was in the first round of the main draw to Tom Moonen of MTSU. Michael bounced back in the consolation bracket with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Thiago Norgueira of Austin Peay, followed by a 6-0, 7-5 victory against Pedro Uribe of Lipscomb.

He then took the walkover win over David Stevenson of Memphis in the third round of consolation. Michael withdrew prior to the quarterfinal match of consolation, allowing Anton Damberg of Austin Peay to move on to Sunday's semi-final match.

Michael Dickson, Olof Wiklund, Thomas Brennan and Ryan Roegner all went 1-1 in singles play, posting first round wins in the main draw and falling in the second round.

Dickson defeated Jacob Marshall of Chattanooga by scores of 6-2, 6-3, before dropping a 6-3, 6-4 set to Oscar Cutting of Memphis.

Wiklund won his opening round in dominant fashion (6-1, 6-0) against Anthony Bosch of NKU. Wiklund dropped a three-setter to Andrew Redding of Indiana (5-7, 6-3, 6-3).

Roegner defeated Jorge Rodriguez-Agudo of NKU 6-2, 6-4, before falling to Miguel Este of ETSU (6-3, 6-2).

Brennan claimed a three-set win on the first day of play over Clement Filho of Louisville (6-3, 6-7, 6-4). He fell in the second round to Luca Wiedenmann of Tennessee, an eventual quarterfinalist of the main draw bracket.

After a first round loss, freshman Alvaro Huete Vadillo grabbed a consolation bracket win over Payam Ahmadi of Indiana (6-3, 6-4). In the next consolation match, he went the distance with Ball State's Danilo Kovacevic, but fell 3-6, 6-3, 10/8, ending the weekend with a 1-2 mark.

Doubles Play
Dickson and Roegner teamed up for the Bulldogs only doubles win of the weekend, taking down the pair of Riku Kubota and Lucca Silva of Tennessee Tech (8-4). The pair's run ended in a close 8-6 loss to Luca Wiedenmann and Scott Jones of Tennessee.
