The Butler women's soccer team will move forward in conference play with a 1-1-1 record after drawing a tie with Villanova (5-4-3, 1-1-1) on Sunday, October 6. The game ended with a final score of 1-1 after 110 minutes of play.
How It Happened:
The first 40 minutes of play went by with the Bulldogs controlling the ball in Wildcat's territory, taking five shots, including three on goal, but with no avail.
Villanova caught a break in the 41
st minute, as Makayla Stadler broke from through the Bulldogs defense for a one-one-one with goalkeeper
Stephanie Rodriguez.
Rodriguez made an aggressive move out from the goal to get a save on Stadler's first shot, but was unable to make a stop when Stadler recovered for a shot to the back of the net off the rebound.
The Wildcats held on to the 1-0 lead into halftime and for 40 minutes of the second half. The Bulldogs best chance came in the 62
nd minute as
Macy Miller took a minimally defended shot from the top of the goal box off a team set-up.
Finally, in the 86
th minute, Butler created an opportunity for
Katie Soderstrom inside the goal box and she was fouled in the midst of making a strike.
Anja Savich stepped up to drill the penalty kick, evening the score at 1-1, where it would remain until the end of regulation. After 20 minutes of overtime, the game was finalized in a draw.
