QUEENS, N.Y. – St. John's picked up a big win over Butler on Sunday afternoon to move one game ahead of the Bulldogs in the BIG EAST standings 20-25, 19-25, 22-25. BU now sits at 8-6 in conference action and 11-15 overall.
How It Happened
Efrosini Alexakou led St. John's to victory with 17 kills and 16 digs. The Red Storm hit .284 as a team and had three total players reach a double figure kill total. Erica DiMaulo recorded a game-high 38 assists and Maria Palacios led all players with five blocks.
Set one was close to the very end. Butler trailed 21-20 after a kill from
Megan Sheridan, but the home team would rattle off the next four points to earn a 25-20 win.
Set two took form after a 4-0 Johnny lead would give the Red Storm an 8-3 lead. Butler never threatened allowing STJ to go up 2-0 into the break 25-19.
Yet another late scoring spree would separate the two evenly matched teams in the third. Butler got a kill from senior
Brooke Gregory to move the scoreboard to 22-21 in favor of St. John's. Three of the next four points would go to the Red Storm and the 'Dawgs would be retired in order.
