A balanced effort led the Bulldogs to a 3-0 win over visiting Providence Friday night at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Butler came away with a 25-23, 25-11, 25-21 victory.
With the result, Butler improves to 9-6 in BIG EAST play and 12-15 overall. The Friars fall to 6-22 (1-14). Butler has won all 13 match-ups with Providence.
Senior
Anna Logan led the Bulldogs with 13 kills; she added 13 digs.
Shay Horn had 10 kills on only 22 swings, hitting .364 for the match. Libero
Elizabeth LaBue had 19 digs.
Butler dominated the net, posting nine blocks. The Bulldogs' defense limited the Friars to just a .027 hitting percentage on the night.
The first game of the match was the closest, featuring six ties and two lead changes.
Butler hit .214 in the first set while holding the visitors to a .047 mark to take a 25-23 decision. Logan led the Bulldogs with four kills in the game. With the game tied 22-22, Butler was able to win three of the final four points, including kills from Logan and
Megan Sheridan.
Butler would never trail in the second and third games.
The Bulldogs cruised to a 25-11 win in the second game. LaBue started the Bulldogs with six consecutive points on her serve and Butler never looked back. Butler hit .316 in the game, putting down nine kills against just three errors. Ten PC errors led to a -.192 hitting percentage.
Once again, Butler got out to a strong start in the third game, jumping out to a 10-4 advantage that required a Providence timeout. The Friars would pull within one at 19-18 before Butler was able to pull away over the closing stretch.
Emma Milstead had 10 digs on the night, while
Megan Ramseyer (14 assists) and
Maria Schorr (12 assists) split time running the Butler offense.
Providence did not have any players with double-figure kills. Addison Root led the team with seven. Brielle Mullally and Mackenzie Taylor led the Friars with 10 digs apiece.
