Butler has signed the highest-ranked recruiting class in program history, a group that is currently ranked in the Top 15 nationally by both Rivals and 247sports.
The five-member signing class includes guards Myles Tate and Chuck Harris, as well as forwards Carlos "Scooby" Johnson, JaKobe Coles and Myles Wilmoth. All five student-athletes signed national letters of intent. Butler announced the complete class Tuesday, Nov. 19.
"We are excited about each of these young men, not only because of the different skill sets and strengths they possess, but the caliber of people they are," said Butler coach LaVall Jordan. "They are quality young men from grounded families and come from winning programs with exceptional coaching. This group has great versatility and competitiveness, and each is a great fit for our program and university. They are excited for the opportunities that Butler provides in the classroom, in the community and on the court."
Myles Tate, 6-0 guard, Roebuck, S.C./Dorman HS
Tate has helped Dorman win three consecutive 5A state championships. He began playing for the varsity as an eighth-grader. Tate averaged 17.1 points, 4.1 rebounds and 5.3 assists as a junior and has more than 1,400 career points leading into his senior season.
Tate is rated as a Top 25 point guard in the 2020 class by ESPN. The four-star recruit is ranked 108
th nationally by 247 sports and 147
th by Rivals. Tate played with Upward Stars on the adidas Gauntlet.
Coach LaVall Jordan on Tate: "Myles has been a leader on championship teams. He'll arrive at Butler well-prepared because of his time spent learning from coach Thomas Ryan. Myles can score at all three levels. He plays with good pace and gets others involved offensively. He's a competitor who values winning above all else."
Chuck Harris, 6-1 guard, Washington, D.C./Gonzaga College HS
As a junior, Harris averaged 11 points, five assists and four rebounds per game for Gonzaga College High School, helping the team to the 2019 Washington Catholic Athletic Conference title. Harris posted 16 points in a WCAC semifinal win over Paul VI. His team has won WCAC championships twice, one of the toughest leagues in the country. He played for Team Takeover on the AAU circuit, a program which has also produced current Bulldogs
Aaron Thompson and
Bryce Golden.
Harris is ranked among the Top 150 players nationally by both Rivals (126
th) and 247sports (150
th). Rivals rates him as a four-star recruit.
Coach LaVall Jordan on Harris: "Chuck brings a lot of the intangibles that we look for. He's a team-first guy. Chuck has played in big games and has been coached at a high level by Steve Turner. He has the ability to play on or off the ball. He has a competitiveness and a tenacity on defense, and that translates. He can score, has good vision and he's competed for championships."

Carlos "Scooby" Johnson, 6-6 forward, Benton Harbor, Mich./Benton Harbor HS
Johnson averaged 26 points and 13 rebounds as a junior for Benton Harbor. His team went 22-2 last season, pushing Benton Harbor's record to 71-7 in his three seasons. As a sophomore, Johnson's three-pointer in overtime gave Benton Harbor a 65-64 victory over Grand Rapids Catholic in Michigan's Class B state championship game. On the AAU circuit, Johnson played with The Family.
Rivals pegs Johnson as a four-star recruit and the 107
th-best player in the 2020 class. He is also ranked No. 138 nationally by 247sports.
Coach LaVall Jordan on Johnson: "Scooby has a toughness and a will about him. He has good size and strength that will allow him to defend multiple positions. He can handle, pass and shoot which gives him offensive versatility. He has played in meaningful games both in high school and AAU and has a knack for hitting big shots. Scooby is an ultimate competitor."
JaKobe Coles, 6-7 forward, Denton, Texas/Guyer HS
Coles averaged 15.1 points and 8.1 rebounds per game as a junior, helping Guyer to a No. 1 ranking in the state and 34
th in the national poll. Coles registered 23 points, 19 rebounds and six blocks for Guyer in an 89-86 overtime victory over Allen in a match-up of teams ranked first and second in the state of Texas.
In Nike EYBL play, Coles averaged 13.8 points and 7.4 rebounds as his Texas Titans were 17-2.
ESPN ranks Coles as a Top 30 power forward in the Class of 2020. Both Rivals (125
th) and 247sports (146
th) have him among their top 150 players in the class.
Coach LaVall Jordan on Coles: "JaKobe has a really versatile offensive game. He is strong in the post, but can also step out and shoot the basketball. He can rebound and lead the break from his position, making the right play. He comes from a great program at Guyer, under Coach Grant Long. He has competed in big games on big stages and he hates to lose."
Myles Wilmoth, 6-9 forward, Chestnut Ridge, N.Y./St. Andrew's School (R.I.)
Wilmoth led St. Andrew's to the New England prep school championship as a junior, posting 15 points and 13 rebounds in the championship game. He was named to Rhode Island's All-USA Super Team as a junior after averaging 14.3 points and nine rebounds per game.
Wilmoth is a consensus three-star prospect. He played with City Rocks in EYBL competition.
Coach LaVall Jordan on Wilmoth: "Myles has size, good length, and is very mobile which will help him on the defensive end as he adds weight and strength. At his size, he can handle and shoot the ball. You've seen his game grow under Mike Hart at St. Andrew's. He's gotten better each year and I expect that development to continue here as a Bulldog. He has a high ceiling."
