INDIANAPOLIS – The Bulldogs swept Xavier on Saturday night to end their 2019 season with a 14-16 overall record. BU won six-straight sets over their rival in a span of just two days to post an 11-7 mark against BIG EAST opponents. Fans could not have scripted a better ending to the match as senior
Anna Logan would seal the win in her last game at Hinkle Fieldhouse with a kill.
How it Happened
Butler won the opener 25-20 behind a strong performance from senior
Brooke Gregory. The BU middle blocker recorded eight kills in set one. She hit .636, helped BU hit .324 as a team. The scoring run that paved the way to victory came later in the action. BU scored six-straight to grab an 18-14 lead. Moments later a 3-0 scoring run would get them to set point. The game-winner went to
Melody Davidson.
Set two featured a 9-3 BU scoring run that moved the score to 17-9 and forced a Xavier timeout.
Shay Horn moved BU to set point and senior
Rillian Dennis gave BU a 25-12 win with a kill on Senior Night.
BU held Xavier down in the third, by opening the action on a 6-1 scoring run. They were in full control at 17-9 after a 4-0 scoring run, but the Musketeers found success late to get back within three at 23-20. Xavier didn't want to end their season quietly so they went on a 6-1 run of their own to get back in it.
Moriah Hopkins came up with back-to-back kills and Xavier would make some noise at 23-21. A costly service error would swing the momentum back to the home team and
Anna Logan would bring the season to a close with her 11th kill of the night.
