INDIANAPOLIS – The Marquette Golden Eagles posted a 3-0 win over Butler on Sunday afternoon in BIG EAST action. Butler is now 7-5 in the conference standings with road matches coming up at Seton Hall and St. John's.
Marquette quickly controlled the first set to win 25-14 and the Golden Eagles would hold off BU 25-22 in the second to take the 2-0 advantage into the break. Butler fought hard in the third and final set, but were ultimately defeated 25-21.
Butler's top performance was turned in by
Brooke Gregory. The senior led BU with eight kills and a .583 attack percentage. She doubled as the team leader in blocks with four.
The Bulldogs had five total team blocks compared to just one from Marquette. The Golden Eagles would rely on Allie Barber and Hope Werch for points. Barber led all players with 13 kills and Werch was in the box score with 11 on just 20 attempts.
Butler used two setters in the setback to the nationally-ranked Golden Eagles.
Megan Ramseyer led the team with 18 and
Maria Schorr added nine.
Elizabeth LaBue was once again the top Bulldog defensively with a team-best 11 digs.
