SOUTH ORANGE – Butler claimed a tough 3-2 road win at Seton Hall on Friday night to collect their 11th overall victory of the 2019 season (22-25, 18-25, 26-24, 25-19, 15-11). BU is now 8-5 against conference opponents and 4-5 in five-set matches.
How It Happened
Seton Hall came out aggressive on their home court to claim a 25-22 win in the opener. BU trailed most of the way, but would get within one at 23-22. The Pirates would hold off the charge and win on a kill from Amanda Rachwal to take the 1-0 lead.
Set two was all Seton Hall after and 11-11 tie. A 6-1 scoring run would separate the two clubs and allow SHU to go ahead 2-0 with a 25-18 win.
The turning point on Friday night came in the third set with BU scoring five-straight points to force a fourth set. Emilee Turner moved SHU to match point, but the Bulldogs battled back to win 26-24.
The two evenly matched teams came together at 16-16 in set four. Butler used a 5-0 run to get some wiggle room and extend the night to a fifth set.
