The Butler men's tennis team closed out the fall portion of the 2019-20 campaign with a strong double showing. The Bulldogs went 8-0 in doubles matches and 8-7 in singles play.
Doubles
On Friday,
Michael Dickson teamed with
Drew Michael to take down the pair of O'Brien/Jansen of EIU by a 6-3 decision. The Bulldog pair went on to defeated Plaza/Suler of CSU (6-3) and Tuff/Zador of DePaul (6-4).
Zach Trimpe and
Michael Karr won 6-3 over Tennison /Baltzhozer of Marquette in the first round. Trimpe and Karr collected two more wins, 6-4 over Pham/Botifoll of ISU and 7-5 against Lusti/Trifunovic of Lewis, throughout the weekend.
Addison Cazier teamed up with Marri of SLU for the weekend doubles, and went undefeated with his non-Bulldog partner. The duo defeated Wallace/Knieling 7-6) and Burton/Camfield (6-4) of EIU.
Singles
Dickson and Cazier led the Bulldogs individually, going 3-0 on the weekend. On Friday, Dickson downed O'Brien of EIU in three sets (3-6, 6-3, 11-9) while Cazier defeated Wallace of EIU 6-4, 6-4.
On Saturday Dickson took down Plaza of CSU (6-0, 7-5), while Cazier defeated Burton of EIU in straight sets (6-1, 6-1). The two Bulldogs closed out their weekend with a final win each, Dickson over Tuff of DePaul (6-2, 3-6, 12-10) and Cazier over Knieling of EIU (6-4, 4-6, 10-5).
Karr also had a solid weekend for the Bulldogs in singles, going 2-1 at the three-day tournament. He defeated Baltzhozer of conference foe Marquette by scores of 6-4, 6-3 in the first round. On Saturday, Karr fell to Botifoll of ISU in three sets, 2-6, 6-3, 10-6, but bounced back on Sunday with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Lewis' Trifunovic.
Dickson and Cazier were both undefeated in singles and doubles, while Karr only dropped one singles match across the tournament.
Michael and Trimpe both went 0-3 in singles, but posted a 3-0 record with their respective doubles partners.
End of 2019 Fall Schedule
The Redbird Invitational was the final fall competition for the Bulldogs this season. Butler will open the 2020 season on Jan. 11 against University Illinois-Chicago in Kalamazoo, Mich. at 3 p.m.
