Annika Schmidt has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® third team. Schmidt is one of 12 defenders across all NCAA Division I programs to receive Academic All-America® accolades.
In 2019, Schmidt led a Bulldogs defense that posted nine shutouts, the second most in the BIG EAST regular season, and a .80 GAA on the year. She also added two goals in her senior campaign.
A standout in the classroom as well, Schmidt owns a 3.98 cumulative GPA as a sports media major. She is a three-time BIG EAST All-Academic and Butler Honor Roll awardee.
The Zionsville, Ind. native has anchored the Bulldogs backline over the last three seasons. She helped lead Butler to back-to-back BIG EAST Championship appearances in 2017 and 2018, and an NCAA Tournament berth in 2017.
The redshirt senior is a three-time All-BIG EAST first team member and United Soccer Coaches All-Region selection.
Schmidt was named to the 2019 CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team earlier this season, along with teammate
Katie Soderstrom. In 2018, the defender was an Academic All-District Second Team honoree.
Twenty five of the 33 members of the Academic All-America® Division I women's soccer teams sport a perfect 4.0 GPA. The 11 members of the first team average a near perfect GPA of 3.99, with the complete 33-member women's team averaging a 3.96 GPA.
To be eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America® honors, a player must have earned CoSIDA Academic All-District® First Team honors in the same season. The athlete must be a starter or important reserve and have at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA.
