@ButlerSoftball Goes 1-1 in Saturday Play at Madeira Beach Invitational

The Bulldogs had a drama-filled Saturday as they continued play at the Madeira Beach Invitational in Clearwater, Fla.

Butler split a pair of games, falling to George Mason, 2-1, on a walk-off hit in the bottom of the seventh. The Bulldogs then rebounded for a 6-3, nine-inning triumph over Holy Cross. Butler is now 3-6 on the season with a single game remaining Sunday in Florida.

Trailing 1-0 against George Mason entering the top of the seventh inning, Butler was able to push across a tying run as senior Cheyenne Thompson drew a two-out, bases-loaded walk.

Butler would hold off George Mason initially in the bottom of the seventh inning, inducing a forceout at home when George Mason had the bases loaded with one out. However, the next batter singled to center field to score the winning run in walk-off fashion.

The Bulldogs had four hits in the morning contest.

Madison Seigworth and Kaitlin Doud split the pitching duties. Each allowed one run.

In the second game, Butler jumped out to a 3-0 lead over Holy Cross through three innings. Jenna Foreman led off the game with an infield hit before stealing second base and eventually scoring on a two-out error.

It was again Foreman who started the rally in the third. She stole both second and third after reaching on an error. Karli Ricketts would double her in. Ricketts would come around on a single up the middle from fellow freshman Lauren Fey.

Holy Cross answered with a single run in the bottom of the fourth and two runs in the seventh to extend the contest. Using the international tiebreaker system, Butler had a runner placed at second base to start the top of the ninth. A bunt single by Bri Avery and an infield single by Foreman loaded the bases. Sammy Andersen gave Butler the lead with a two-run single and Madi Christiansen added an RBI single of her own.

Foreman had three of the Bulldogs' 10 hits. Alyssa Graves got the start in the circle and went 6.0 innings, surrendering four hits and two runs. She struck out eight. Ricketts came on in relief, picking up the first win of her Butler career. She allowed a single run in three innings of work.

Butler closes play in Clearwater Sunday morning with an 11:30 a.m. first pitch against Drexel.
