@ButlerSoftball Drops Pair of Wednesday Match-ups

Butler dropped a pair of games Wednesday afternoon in Tampa, Fla., falling 3-2 to North Dakota State and 8-3 to Army.

With the results, Butler is now 8-12 on the season.

In the first game of the day, NDSU scored single runs in the second, fourth and fifth innings to take the victory. That included solo home runs from Vanessa Anderson and Cara Beatty.

The Bulldogs, down 3-0 entering the seventh inning, pulled within a single run thanks to a two-run single from Payton Longest. However, NDSU's Paige Vargas would end the rally.

Vargas allowed five hits in improving to 5-4 on the season. Alyssa Graves took the loss (3-4), allowing only two earned runs in six innings of work. She struck out eight.

In the second game, Army took control with a seven-run fourth inning en route to the 8-3 win.

Butler's runs came on a Claire Gilliland home run, while Longest and Maddie Moore added RBIs.

The Bulldogs are off Thursday before closing their week in Tampa with a five-game weekend, beginning with games on Friday against Minnesota and South Florida.
