Play continued Saturday in Tampa, Fla., as part of the weekend's University of South Florida-hosted event. The Bulldogs played a pair of morning games, dropping a 6-4 decision to Princeton and losing a 2-1 result against North Florida in the seventh inning.
With the results, Butler is now 8-16 on the season.
In Saturday's opener, a four-run bottom of the fifth proved to be the difference for Princeton in the Tigers' 6-4 win.Â
Princeton took a 2-0 lead with single runs in the first and third before sophomore
Claire Gilliland's grand slam gave Butler a 4-2 lea in the top of the fourth. It was Gilliland's second home run of the season.
Princeton's four-run fifth inning included a Butler error and three unearned runs.Â
In the second game of the day, North Florida scored a single run in the bottom of the first inning and that 1-0 score held until the seventh inning. Down to Butler's last out,
Elyse Babb stepped up to the plate and belted the first home run of her Butler career. The blast over the left field wall knotted the game at 1-1.
In the bottom of the seventh, North Florida moved a runner to third with just one out. Butler followed by intentionally loading the bases. Ashley Goebel provided the walk-off hit with a single to right field for the 2-1 North Florida win.
Babb produced both of Butler's hits.
Alyssa Graves pitched 6.1 innings, scattering nine hits but allowing both of UNF's runs. She struck out seven batters.
Sydney Matzko earned the win for North Florida, allowing two hits and one walk in the complete game.
The Bulldogs conclude play in Tampa Sunday morning with a 9 a.m. first pitch against La Salle.
