Butler has been selected to the 2019 NIT. The Bulldogs are a No. 5 seed, and face fourth-seeded Nebraska in a Wednesday game in Lincoln, Neb.

The 9 p.m. (Eastern) tip will be televised on ESPN2. The winner of the Butler-Nebraska match-up will play the winner of No. 1 seed TCU and No. 8 seed Sam Houston State.

The Bulldogs have made the postseason five seasons in a row, and 13 of the past 14 seasons.

This is Butler's ninth NIT appearance, having previously participated in the 1958, 1959, 1985, 1991, 1992, 1999, 2002, and 2006.

Butler enters the postseason with a 16-16 record. The Bulldogs played 13 games against teams that made the 2019 NCAA Tournament field, and another 11 games against the teams in the 2019 NIT field. Nine of the 10 BIG EAST teams were selected to either the NCAA Tournament or NIT. 

Coach LaVall Jordan's Bulldogs are led by All-BIG EAST second team selection Kamar Baldwin and his 17.2 points and 5.0 rebounds per game.

Butler redshirt senior Paul Jorgensen won the 2016 NIT as part of the George Washington roster prior to transferring to Butler.

Butler is 1-2 all-time against Nebraska, a current member of the Big Ten Conference. The teams last played in 1986.

First round play is scheduled for Tuesday, March 19 and Wednesday, March 20, with the second round running March 21-25. Quarterfinals will be held on March 26 and 27 and four teams will advance to New York City for the semifinals on Tuesday, April 2. The NIT will conclude with the championship game on Thursday, April 4. The semifinal and championship games will be played at New York's historic Madison Square Garden for the 82nd year.
