Butler (3-6) will travel to Nashville this Sunday to take on the Vanderbilt Commodores (7-1) of the American Athletic Conference. Vanderbilt is currently 4-0 at home and coming off of a 17-3 win against Winthrop. The Bulldogs enter the game riding a successful Spring Break trip where they tallied their third win of the season against Wofford, beating the Terriers, 17-10.
Butler sophomore
Ashley Guerra was named BIG EAST Attacker of the Week for her performance this past week. Guerra picked up 10 points in Butler's victory over Wofford, netting five goals and dishing out five assists. The 10-point total is the sixth highest in the NCAA this season. Guerra now sits as the team leader in goals (21), assists (15) and points (36). Guerra's point total is good for 30th in the NCAA.
The Bulldogs also saw a few players have break-out performances on their trip down south. Junior
Sydney Pattison scored three goals on the trip, including a three-point performance against Gardner-Webb. Freshman
Holly Hall also continued to find the back of the net on the trip. The midfielder netted three goals of her own to bring her season total to seven.
Redshirt-senior
Haley Hallenbeck continued her productive season last week, scoring three goals in the three games to bring her season total to 11, good for third on the team.
Against Gardner-Webb,
Ashley Steffes collected four draw control wins, while adding a goal and a pair of assists on the offensive end of the field. The midfielder also added three goals against Wofford.
Senior
Carly Hewitt continues to lead the defensive charge for the Bulldogs. The defender caused six turnovers on the trip, including four against Wofford, bringing her total to a team-high 19.
In the cage,
Amanda Rumsey picked up her third win of the season after collecting three saves on eight shots against Wofford. Head coach Cecil Pilson also called up on his freshman keeper,
Katie McGrath, to play significant minutes on the trip. McGrath performed well in her 30 minutes against Gardner-Webb, saving six of nine shots she faced.Â
About Vanderbilt
Vanderbilt's lacrosse team is off to their best start in school history at 7-1. Head Coach Beth Hewitt has her team firing on all cylinders in her first season at the helm. The Commodores are outscoring opponents 128-70 through the first eight games, and limiting opponents to just 191 shot attempts. Vandy ranks fourth nationally in assists per game (9.13) and sixth in points per game (25.13).
Vanderbilt will play #12 Notre Dame before hosting the Bulldogs on Saturday.

After the clash with Vanderbilt, Butler will travel back to Indianapolis to prepare for their BIG EAST opener against Georgetown on March 30. That game is set for 12 PM at Varsity Field.
