INDIANAPOLIS – The Bulldogs scored four of their five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to post a 5-2 victory over Anderson on Wednesday afternoon. BU scored their five runs off just three hits to improve to 15-9 on the season.
Kevin Napoleon struck out seven batters in five innings to earn his first win of the season. Napoleon allowed two earned runs off four hits. He didn't walk a single batter.
Alex Voss took the mound for the next three innings and would get one out in the ninth before handing the ball off to
Jack Myers. Butler ended the game with a double play to secure the win. Myers now has two saves in 2019.
James Gargano led the team offensively with three RBI and a run scored. The other Butler RBI came from outfielder
Harrison Freed.
Gargano put Butler on the scoreboard first with a sac fly to right field that scored
Zach Jarosz in the bottom of the third inning. Anderson answered in the fourth and would take a 2-1 lead in the fifth.
Butler answered in the bottom half of five with four runs off just one hit. Zach Lane took the mound for Anderson and would walk the first two batters he faced. Each base runner would advance into scoring position after a sac bunt and the bases would be loaded after an intentional walk.
Gargano impacted the game again with a single back up the middle of the field that scored two runs and allowed
Kyle Smith to advance to third. Freed's sac fly to left would allow Smith to tag up and touch home plate. The final run came on aggressive base running. McCargar took off for second but was tagged out 2-4-3. Gargano scored the fifth run of the game while McCargar was in the rundown.
Butler will take their three-game winning streak into the weekend and host the Southern Illinois Salukis. The three game series will get started on Friday at 4 PM.
