@ButlerSoftball Set to Welcome Villanova to Indianapolis for BIG EAST Series

The Bulldogs continue BIG EAST play this weekend, welcoming Villanova to Indianapolis. The three-game series is scheduled for a doubleheader Saturday followed by a single game Sunday. However, rain in the forecast might force adjustments to the schedule. Follow @ButlerSoftball on Twitter for updates.

Sunday's game is scheduled to be streamed live on the Butler Bulldogs Facebook page.

Butler enters the weekend with an 11-20 overall record. Villanova is 16-15. Both teams went 1-2 in their opening weekend of BIG EAST play as the Bulldogs matched up with DePaul, and the Wildcats traveled to Seton Hall. This is the second of seven weekend series against BIG EAST foes for the Bulldogs. The top four teams in the final BIG EAST conference standings will qualify for the 2019 BIG EAST Tournament, which is slated for May 10-11 in Rosemont, Ill. The 2018 series between Butler and Villanova was cancelled due to weather in the northeast.

Senior lead-off hitter Jenna Foreman paces the Bulldogs with a .340 batting average, 33 hits, 23 stolen bases, and 18 runs so far this season. She leads the BIG EAST in stolen bases (ninth in the NCAA) and is fifth in the conference in hits. Foreman set Butler single-season records in both hits (63) and stolen bases (35) last season as a junior. Foreman has nine multi-hit games this season, including a four-hit performance against Evansville Feb. 9 in the second game of the season.

Freshman Lauren Fey and sophomore Maddie Moore have each seen their average climb to .321 on the season. Moore has a current five-game hitting streak. That includes three multi-hit games highlighted by a 3-for-3 afternoon in Sunday's win over DePaul. Fey earned a spot on the five-member BIG EAST weekly honor roll after her performance against DePaul last weekend when she had six hits (in 11 at-bats) and five RBI against the Blue Demons. Her weekend capped off an 11-for-19 stretch at the plate. Fey tied a Butler single-game record with five hits in Butler's win over La Salle March 17.

Senior Kaitlin Doud has taken over the team lead with 15 RBI on the season. Her 18 hits include six doubles and two home runs. Those two home runs are tied with classmate Sammy Andersen and sophomore Claire Gilliland. Doud keyed the Bulldogs to a 7-1 win at Evansville Tuesday with a home run and three RBI. She scored three runs in Sunday's win over DePaul, and has hits in four of her last five games.

Thanks to eight of her 12 hits being for extra bases, Gilliland has a team-best .446 slugging percentage. Doud and Gilliland each have a four-RBI game behind grand slams versus Green Bay March 8 and Princeton March 16, respectively.

Bri Avery has started each of the last four games to coincide with her current four-game hitting streak. Her five stolen bases are tied with Fey for second on the team. In that win over Evansville Tuesday, Christina Candotti connected on her first home run of the season.

In the circle, sophomore Alyssa Graves has a team-best 2.91 ERA, a mark that is sixth in the BIG EAST. She has 96 strikeouts (second in the BIG EAST) in 86.2 innings of work. She took a tough loss Wednesday against UIC, allowing only two earned runs in eight innings of work. Graves has six or more strikeouts in six consecutive starts, including a season-best 10 vs. No. 21 Minnesota March 15.

In Tuesday's 7-1 win at Evansville, freshman Karli Ricketts tossed a complete-game six-hitter, while striking out eight. Ricketts' time in the circle was highlighted by a no-hitter (five innings) against Green Bay March 8. At the plate, Ricketts is hitting .256 and has 13 RBI.

Doud has also appeared in 17 games as a pitcher, having posted a 3.24 ERA.

Following the three games this weekend with Villanova, the Bulldogs travel downtown to meet IUPUI Wednesday in a crosstown, non-conference match-up. Butler's next BIG EAST opponent is Seton Hall with the three-game series in South Orange, N.J., serving as the Bulldogs' first conference road trip of the season.
